HAZELTON – Kenneth S. Alkire, age 74, of Hazelton, Idaho, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2026.
Ken was born September 3, 1951, in Yreka, California, to Kenneth and Doris Alkire. He grew up in Redding, California and graduated from Enterprise High School in 1970. Ken went on to serve a short time in the National Guard, after which he joined the United States Air Force. He and his family served in Sacramento, California, then Enid, Oklahoma, finally landing in Wichita Falls, Texas, where he was a TSGT Instructor Supervisor at the School House on Sheppard Air Force Base.
After his honorable discharge from service, Ken went on to be a RAD Tech with Magic Valley Regional Medical Center, later employed by St. Luke's Hospital, in Twin Falls. Unable to sit still, in his later years Ken went to work at Walmart in Burley. Through the years Ken pursued many interests and hobbies, including hunting, fishing, custom car painting, photography, and homesteading with his family.
Ken is survived by his wife, Mary Kay Alkire; and his daughters, Sandy Ferrenburg (Brad) and Heather Decker (Dwayne). He is also survived by his brothers, Howard Alkire, Kirk Alkire, Gerald Moore; and his sister, Candy Moore; in addition to seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Ken was predeceased by his parents, Kenneth and Doris Alkire; his first wife, Robin L. Runge; and his second wife, Roberta K. O'Claire.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 8, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Emerson 2nd Ward, located at 127 S. 950 W., of Paul. Military rites will be performed at the church by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Group. Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Park in Twin Falls at a later date.
The family would like to thank the ICU staff at St. Luke's Hospital. They ask that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Red Cross or Shop with a Cop in Burley, Idaho, in his honor.
Funeral services have been entrusted to the care of Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home of Burley.
