Carol Joy DuRette Burgess, 79, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, passed away on May 17, 2026, at Orem Rehab surrounded by her family.

She was born on April 18, 1947, in Oregon City, Oregon, to Lawrence A. DuRette and Betty Elaine Walruff, and was one of seven siblings in a large and loving family. She attended high school in Lincoln City, Oregon and graduated from College of Southern Idaho with a degree in drafting.

Carol grew up in Oregon, in the Willamette Valley, then near Lincoln City, Oregon. Carol had amazing artistic ability, and she could work in many artistic mediums. Drawings, paintings with oil & watercolor, textile design and manufacturing, professional seamstress, calligraphy, drafting and home design, scrapbooking, photography and her beloved ocean/shell crafts.

She married her best friend and love, Stanley Wayne Burgess on December 30, 1965, and they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple on July 3, 1969. She raised four children and was blessed to have lived in many areas of our country. Carol’s favorite place was always the Oregon Coast; she was a daughter of God and the sea.

Carol always had incredible ideas for art, drawings and crafts. She took amazing pictures of the ocean, flowers and areas around her and sold them on picture cards. She designed and manufactured stick ponies, sea horses, reindeer and carousel horses with her daughter. She designed and drew plans for additions, remodels and custom homes for her husband’s construction company. One of her favorite talents was using seashells she found on the beach to make shells ornaments and ocean crafts. She was extremely talented.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Burgess; one sister, Valerie James; and her parents, Larry DuRette and Betty Hines.

Carol is survived by her two daughters, Monica (Ken) Freeman and Cindy (Ron) Ludlow; two sons, Ronald (Julie) Burgess and Guillermo (Natalie) Burgess; as well as 14 grandchildren; 18 great- grandchildren; three sisters, Rosita Hasfjord, Adrienne DuRette, and Benita DuRette; and two brothers, Laddie DuRette, and Michael (Janie) Lucas.

The funeral will be held at 1 pm Friday, May 29, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Emerson 1st Ward, located at 127 South 950 West, Paul, ID, 83347. Family and friends will be received from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Burial will be at Paul Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home of Burley.
