BURLEY – Darlene Kay Fowler Carlisle, an 80-year-old resident of Burley, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on Saturday, December 13, 2025.

She was born December 27, 1944, in Rupert, Idaho; the first child born to Della Evelyn Simonson Fowler and Frankie William Fowler. Darlene was born while her father was serving in Germany during World War II. Darlene did not meet her father until the war ended. She spent her early years in the View area, living near Fowler cousins, aunts, uncles, and next door to her grandparents. She moved to town (Burley), following her father’s farm accident. Darlene was finally blessed with a sibling on September 14, 1958. She had waited 14 long years for Kenneth Gene Fowler to join the family.

Darlene attended Miller School and Burley Junior and Senior High Schools. She graduated from Burley High School in 1963. She spent her high school years working at the Burley Theater. This is where she met the love of her life, Neil Forrest Carlisle. They were married July 13, 1963. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls Idaho Temple on April 10, 1971. They were blessed with three daughters, Cindy Kay, Shauna Kay, and Kristine Kay. Darlene and Neil loved and supported their daughters in all of their activities and endeavors. Darlene spent many years working as a teaching assistant at Springdale Kindergarten and White Pine Elementary.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in the Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society organizations. Darlene spent the last two and one-half years of her life living at her daughter Cindy’s home.

Darlene is survived by her brother, Kenny (Debra) Fowler; daughters, Cindy (David) Benavidez of Burley, Shauna (Milan) Asher of Idaho City, and Kristine Carlisle of Burley; 11 grandchildren, Nathan (Sydney) Benavidez, Joel (Eliza) Benavidez, Samuel Benavidez, Mylee Benavidez, Maycee Benavidez, Luke (Krysee) Benavidez, Matthew Benavidez, Aaron (Jocelyn) Asher, Marissa (Benjamin) Durbin, Zen Asher, and Shailee (Tegan) Spurgeon; 13 great-grandchildren; along with nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Neil Carlisle; her parents; a grandson, Joshua Benavidez; grandparents, Eva and Frank Fowler and Hilma and Carl Simonson, her in-laws, John and Lela Carlisle; sister and brothers in-law, Elmer and Volyn Uscola, Lanny and Irma Carlisle, and Kay Carlisle, and nieces, Penny Uscola, and Kellie and McKenzie Fowler.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 20, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - View 2nd Ward, located at 490 E. 550 S., of Burley. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Burley.

From Sandy Laws Brandt:
Thank you to Shauna for sending me a message. I am so sorry for the loss of all of you. Thirty years after losing my mom, there are still times I think of her and wish to have a conversation with her, ask her questions, share stories along with that unique and special unspoken understanding and meaning from our history together, feel her arms around me. Moms are the focal point that tie their descendants together. Life can feel a bit more unraveled when such an important and loved person is no longer with us. I pray for the Lord’s comfort to you.
From Joe & Dorcas Anderson:
We want to extend our sympathy to you, Cindy and David and your family. It is difficult to lose a mother and grandmother. We know you took the best of care of her. She is blessed to have been in your loving home for her last years. Her 80th birthday write up is in our ward history and can be accessed any time.
