BURLEY – Irene Marie (Nolte) Myers, a 93-year-old resident of Burley, formerly of Heyburn, passed away Monday, November 24, 2025, at Parke View Rehabilitation and Care in Burley.

Irene was born January 28, 1932, to Leo and Catherine Walk Nolte on a farm in Seneca, Kansas. Irene was baptized at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she made her first Holy Communion and Confirmation, choosing the name Frances. Irene attended the Sacred Heart Catholic School and Church in Baileyville, Kansas, for four-and-a-half years, moving to Havensville, Kansas, in 1945, in the middle of the fifth grade. After eighth grade, she moved to Seneca, Kansas, and worked in a café. She also worked at cafés in Wichita, and Onaga, Kansas. While in Onaga, Irene worked at her mother’s sandwich shop.

Irene married Donald Dean Myers on December 31, 1954, in the St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Onaga. They had four children: Donna Lynn, Thomas Orval, Alice Marie, and Judy Kay. They later divorced. In March 1958, they moved to Richfield, Idaho, where Don worked for his brother, Bob. When they moved into town, Irene worked as a custodian for the school district. They moved to Heyburn in September 1969. Irene worked as a custodian at Minico High School, then transferred to Heyburn Elementary. In November of 1973, she went to work for Simplot’s, retiring after 25 years.

Irene was the ninth of twelve children. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Gerald (Jerry), Norbert, Melvin, Donald, Richard, and Andrew; and sisters, Beatrice Skoch, Anna Correa, Rosann Fox, and Elda Mae Foote; and infant sister, Gladys Mae Nolte; as well as a grandson, Charles Davis.

Irene joined Paul Baptist (Hope Community Church) on January 5, 2003. She enjoyed playing Bingo and Canasta with her children and grandchildren, teaching them how to play as well. Irene made the best deviled eggs, which she brought to the holiday gatherings.

Irene was a voracious canner of fish, fruits, vegetables, sauerkraut, and horseradish. Moving to Idaho, she brought over 700 jars of canned food along, packed in dresser drawers.

Surviving are her children, Donna (John) Kieffer of Mountain Home, Thomas Myers of Heyburn, Alice (Wayne) Schenk of Rupert, and Judy (Terry) Walker of American Falls; 11 grandchildren, Paul, Bucky, Natasha, Kaylene, Zamar, Megan, Matthew (Shalane), Sarah (James), Ariel (Russ), Benjamin, and Michael; as well as her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear friend (over seven decades) and sister-in-law, Lorine (Andrew) Nolte of Topeka, Kansas; and her honorary daughter, Christine Kerlin of Twin Falls.

Irene suffered a stroke in 2018, which left half of her body paralyzed. She required skilled nursing and moved into Parke View Care and Rehabilitation of Burley, where she has resided for the past seven years. The family wishes to thank the staff for the love and care they gave Mom when she lived there. Special thanks to Kim Walton for the loan of her handicap van, which allowed the family to bring Mom to their homes.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 6, at Hope Community Church, located at 25 N 4th West Street E., in Paul. Family and friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at the Rupert Cemetery.

Funeral services have been entrusted to the care of Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home of Burley.
