BURLEY – Arthur Dean Irving, age 82, a longtime resident of Burley, passed away at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Twin Falls, on Saturday, November 1, 2025, after a brief illness.

Arthur was born on February 19, 1943, in Hammett, Idaho, to Oral Harvey Irving and Sylvia Louise DeMain. He was raised in Glenns Ferry, Idaho, by his father, Oral, and stepmother, Lois, who filled the role of his loving mother from his very early years. He attended Glenns Ferry High School. Arthur spent most of his career as a mechanic, although his first job was working for Hood Co. on the farm at Hammett. As a mechanic, he went to work at Bogus Basin for four years before being laid off due to a lack of snow, then worked at Western States Caterpillar, Richner & Wheaton, and later at Western Construction from which he retired after 15 years as a heavy equipment diesel mechanic.

Arthur served in the Army National Guard, including six months of active duty. He met his wife, Velva Casper, in December 1962, and they were married in June 1965. Together they raised three sons, Jeffrey, Daniel, and Kevin. Arthur and Velva moved to Boise in 1973, where they purchased their first home. In August 2019, they were sealed for time and eternity in the Twin Falls Idaho Temple.

Arthur was an avid outdoorsman who loved spending time outside with family and friends. He enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing with his sons. He also had a passion for working on cars and cherished building and restoring vehicles with his boys, including a 1977 Chevy pickup truck, a 1970 Camaro, and a 2004 Dodge Ram dually. Arthur was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need–he truly was a jack of all trades.

Arthur is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Velva; his sister, Betty Jean (Ross) Shurtz; and his sons, Jeffrey Irving, Daniel (Linda) Irving, and Kevin (Adriana) Irving. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Adam (Jessica) Irving, Olivia Poole, Morgan Irving, Tayler (Alessa Amante de Irving) Irving, Zachary (Tully) Irving, Megan Irving-McEwen (Duncan) McEwen, Cheyenne (Shane) Kempton, and Hannah (Tucker) Egan; and eight great- grandchildren, Alexis, Connor, Riley, Ryker, Devan, Waylon, Lorenzo, and Amelia, with one more on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Lois Irving; his brothers, William Stiffler, and Cecil Irving; and sisters, Hazel Rush, Jackie Harwood, Carol Bailey, and Sylvia Flemming.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to all friends and loved ones for their visits, prayers, and support. A special thank you to the staff at St. Luke’s Magic Valley ICU in Twin Falls for their exceptional care and professionalism.

The funeral will be held at 11a.m. Friday, November 7, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Unity 2nd Ward, located at 275 South 250 East, in Burley, where family and friends will be received from 10 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Military Rites will be provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Group. Burial will follow at 3p.m. at the Glenn Rest Cemetery in Glenns Ferry, Idaho located at 2005 Frontage Rd.

From Rose adams:
Art, I was saddened by the news of your passing, but I know the reunion you're having now is beyond wonderful. I met you and Velva 9 years ago when I bought your house in Idaho City. I saw how hard you worked and that you took good care of your sweet wife. I admired you for that. I have enjoyed this home here in Idaho City since we shook hands on the purchase. May God bless Velva in your absence. I'm so happy you took her to the Temple.

Velva,
I’m so sorry to hear that Arthur has passed away. We spent a lot of time together when we were younger and I have a lot good memories of him. Wish I could be there for his funeral, but my health doesn’t allow much traveling. Wish you the best you’ll be in my thoughts. Emmalou. & Darrell Long
