FILER– Jacob “Jake” Michael Thompson, a 28-year-old, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2025, at his home in Filer. His loss was unexpected and deeply felt by all who knew him.
Jacob was born on January 27, 1997 in Laguna Hills, CA, and grew up in the charming community of Modjeska Canyon, CA. Canyon folks remember Jacob growing up scrounging for parts to build bikes and go carts, helping neighbors with yard work, selling plums with his sister, exploring the creeks with friends, and simply being a sweetheart.
Baseball has always been an important part of Jacob’s life. From T-ball to high school, Jacob could play every position but most enjoyed Pitching, Catching, and First Base. He had been a member of multiple youth league teams, All Star teams, travel teams, and even joined a few co-ed teams in Twin Falls in recent years. He achieved countless awards for his individual accomplishments – especially as a pitcher. His friends and family remember their time with him at Angels and Dodgers games, cook outs where a ball game would spontaneously commence, and those times when he would show up with a bucket of balls and two gloves to play catch with anyone willing – even if he had to teach them. Jacob took pride in teaching the mechanics of baseball. He carried that passion and athleticism into golf when a cherished friend introduced him to the sport only a few years ago. Jacob enjoyed many other sports, including bowling, football, and surfing.
Jacob had always been multi talented and had a lot of space in his heart for his many passions. His love for off-roading and being outside came from his father, who took Jacob and his sister out to explore the hidden secrets of the Mojave Desert in his precious rebuilt 1974 Toyota Land Cruiser. These moments ignited so many of the passions Jacob would become known for as an adult – including his love of trucks, camping, boating, and fishing. He enjoyed many summers as honorary First Mate on his aunt and uncle’s sailboat, where he received valuable mentorship from his Uncle Keith, who was a second father to him.
Jacob studied Diesel Mechanics at Lincoln Tech in Denver, CO before moving to the Twin Falls area in 2016. He held many positions over the years working on trucks, cars, and anything with a transmission. Jacob began working for Twin Falls Parks and Recreation as a seasonal hire before being welcomed to the team full-time in 2022. He worked his way up to Senior Parks Operator where his commitment and dedication to service is evident through the public spaces he touched.
Jacob was also a firearms enthusiast along with other interests, including gaming, hanging out with his buddies, spending time with family, and learning anything and everything pertaining to being outdoors.
A man of many vehicles, Jacob had the uncanny ability to buy, repair, and sell trucks and projects at record pace. Everyone who knew Jacob appreciated his chill demeanor, his warm smile, and his love for helping others. His sense of humor and general redneckery will be joyfully remembered long after his passing.
Jacob is survived by his older sister, Michele; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins; including his Auntie Debbie Joswick, Auntie Jonni Joswick-Terry, and cousin, Jason Dionne. He is predeceased in death by his mother and father, Pamela and Michael Thompson; grandparents, and many beloved family members. May they all reunite and rest in peace.
A note from his sister, Michele:
It is difficult to summarize Jacob’s life as he was such an interesting and enigmatic person. I learned how to protect, nurture, and lead through having him as my younger brother and only sibling. Together, we learned how to laugh, how to be resilient, and how to create beauty in any situation we found ourselves in. Through the good and bad times, Jacob is the person who taught me strength and responsibility just by existing as a part of my life. My purpose in life has changed now, but the influence he has had will forever stay with me. It is a privilege to call Jacob my brother, to have watched him grow over his lifetime, and to have received the great gift of being an older sibling.
Because Jacob transplanted and was a part of multiple communities, there will be two occasions to formally celebrate his life: one in Idaho and one in California.
