Dixie Ann (Hranac) Barkes

Dixie Ann (Hranac) Barkes

Oct. 2, 1942 - Jul. 20, 2025

MURTAUGH – Dixie Ann Barkes of Murtaugh, Idaho, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2025, in Twin Falls, Idaho. She was 82.

Dixie was born on Friday, October 2, 1942, to parents William Hranac and Lola Fike of Riverton, WY. They later moved from their Wyoming home to the sagebrush of the Snake River Plain in Murtaugh, Idaho. She attended school there and graduated from Murtaugh High School in 1960. She then married Stan Barkes on November 11, 1961.

Dixie and Stanley lived together near Murtaugh, on the Barkes family farm. They raised seven children there – Lisa Ann (and Gerry Swanke); Todd Lyle (Leah Korte); Jennifer (Dan Taylor); Joni (Steve Klamm); Tara Rebecca (Mark Porter); Jeremiah Charles; and Chauncey Blue (Anrdrea Smith). They remained in Murtaugh (with the exception of five years that they lived in Kansas), until exactly one year before her death.

Dixie was a very curious person, she loved puzzles and often challenged herself to learn new things. She was an early adopter of computers and moved onto other devices as they became available. Her continuing education was a constant in her life and she was forever learning new things. She loved to express her creative side through crafting bright and beautiful things. She could sew and would stitch beautiful dresses for her daughters, and clothes for her boys. She was generous with her time and talents, enjoying the happiness her creations brought to her friends and family. Dixie will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Jeremiah Charles and Todd Lyle, and her daughter, Lisa Ann.

Arrangements are pending and will be announced by Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home of Burley.
