DECLO – David Wade Lewis, age 66, of Declo, passed away Friday, May 16, 2025, at his home in Declo.

David was born in Burley, Idaho, on August 31, 1958. He was the middle of five children born to Wayne Jr. and Veloy Marsden Lewis. David was raised in Declo where he attended school and was active in 4-H, FFA, and school sports, becoming a star athlete and setting many high school records. After graduating high school he went to work for Lewis Trucking and many other trucking companies until becoming “A Big Time Trucking Executive” and independent hauler starting Declo Carriers.

“Declo Dave” the Legend, was known for his kind heart and willingness to help anyone and, especially talking, sharing stories, and good times. He had a keen eye for trucks, able to recognize and name just about any rig on the road – a true trucker’s gift. “Friends of the road, Respect the grade, Keep your eyes on the road and your mind on the load” were all words of wisdom for rookie and seasoned drivers that Declo Dave loved to share. The road goes on forever and the party never ends.

David is survived by his sons, Dirk Lewis, and Dewayne (Lyndsay) Lewis; granddaughters, Quinn and Fallynn Lewis; sister, Gail Adams; brother, Dale “Dee” Lewis; and nephew, Bryan Adams. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne Jr. and Veloy Marsden Lewis; and his brothers, Daniel Wayne Lewis and Dennis Lewis.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Declo Cemetery located at 102 North Cemetery Road, in Declo.

A viewing for family and friends will be held from 9 until 10:30 a.m. prior to the graveside at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, located at 1350 East 16th Street, in Burley.
