Brian Keith Petersen

Feb. 7, 1987 - May 1, 2025

Date of Service: May 9, 2025

HOWELL, UT – Brian Keith Petersen was born on February 7, 1987, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Lynn Keith Petersen and Cozette Ruth (Mooney) Patterson. He passed away on May 1, 2025, leaving behind cherished memories and a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Brian spent his earliest years in Idaho Falls, with his parents and older sister, Kayleigh. His family soon grew to include two younger brothers, Ethan and Trevor. In 1991, the family moved to Burley, Idaho, where many of Brian’s earliest memories were made.

When Brian was five, his parents divorced and both remarried about a year later. With these new marriages came an expanded and blended family, adding three older step-sisters and three older step-brothers to his life. Four years later, Brian welcomed his youngest brother, Dallon, when his mom and stepdad, Dennis Patterson, added one final chapter to their growing household.

Brian attended elementary school in Burley before transferring to Declo in junior high. Along the way, he made countless friends. His bright smile, brooding confidence, and sense of humor drew people to him — and the girls, especially, were quick to take notice. People were often charmed not just by his looks, but by his good heart and magnetic energy.

Brian was an incredibly hard worker — the kind of man who never shied away from dirty hands or a heavy load. From his early days moving irrigation lines and milking cows to operating heavy machinery and welding, there wasn’t a job too tough or a challenge he wouldn’t take on. Over the years, he had the opportunity to work alongside his family. He worked in a gravel pit with his dad, welded for a few years with his brother-in-law, and eventually found his stride working with his stepdad and mentor, Dennis Patterson, in the world of mechanics.

In February of 2009, Brian reconnected with a childhood friend, Kelsie Marie Tolle, at the Burley singles ward. The connection was instant and undeniable — they quickly became inseparable. By July 9th of that same year, they knew it was meant to be and tied the knot, beginning a partnership built on friendship, faith, and fierce love. On December 10, 2015, their daughter Meadow Bree Petersen was born. Brian always said that in that moment he felt immense pride and overwhelming love. In 2017, Brian and Kelsie bought their home in Howell, Utah — a place where their dreams could take root. Then, on December 27, 2021, their son Keith Ace Petersen joined the family

Brian’s passion for the outdoors was unmatched. He found joy and freedom hiking through Zion, trail riding on his dirt bike, camping under open skies, and carving fresh snow on a snowmobile. Nature was his playground, and he made sure his family enjoyed every moment of it with him.

With relentless determination and vision, Brian built his own business from the ground up — one that challenged him, fulfilled him, and gave him the freedom to prioritize what mattered most: his family. He didn’t just build a company; he built a life of balance, adventure, and meaning. He achieved more than financial success — he found a way to live on his own terms.

Brian was preceded in death by his beloved grandfathers, Earl Petersen and Clayton Mooney; his grandmother, Rita Mooney; his mother, Cozette Patterson; his infant sister, Brooke Sharee Patterson; and his step-brother, Levi Garrett. We find comfort in imagining the joyful reunion they are now having, and the peace he has found with them.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Kelsie Marie Petersen; and their two precious children, Meadow Bree Petersen and Keith Ace Petersen, who were the absolute light of his life. Brian’s legacy lives on through them — in their laughter, their strength, and the love they carry forward.

He is also survived by his father, Lynn Keith Petersen (Sherry); his stepfather, Dennis Patterson (Mary); his siblings include Kayleigh Boesiger (Mike), Ethan Petersen (Alesa), Trevor Petersen (Ayla), and Dallon Patterson (Allie). He is also remembered and loved by his step-siblings, Bret Patterson (Janae), Tierra Patterson (Brent), Jennifer Garrett, McKay Garrett (Elizabeth), and Lacey Story; as well as his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marty and Melanie Tolle; sisters-in-law, Megan VanBiezen (Jarrett), and Macaela Tolle (Justin Peterson); and brothers-in-law, Coy Tolle (Kaitlyn), Zeb Tolle (Shelby), Jace Tolle, and Briggs Tolle (Timber).

In addition to his immediate and extended family, Brian was adored by his 29 nieces and nephews — all of whom saw him not just as an uncle, but as a hero, a playmate, and a mentor. His spirit lives on in the stories they’ll tell and the adventures they’ll remember forever.

Brian cherished his family above all else. He built a life rooted in love, connection, and loyalty, and his presence will be profoundly missed by all who had the blessing of calling him husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2025, at View Cemetery located at 600 South 700 East, in Burley with a Celebration of Life to follow at Stoker's Barn located at 845 East 500 South, in Burley.
