Lanny James Denton

Jul. 7, 1952 - Apr. 14, 2025

Date of Service: May 13, 2025

BURLEY – Lanny James Denton, a 72-year-old resident of Burley, passed away Monday, April 14, at Intermountain Medical Center, in Murray, Utah.

Lanny was born July 7, 1952, to Richard James and Anetta Virginia Denton in Garden Grove, California. He was raised with his brother, Richard; and two sisters, Ginny and Lisa. His younger years were spent in Fullerton, California. From an early age, he had a love for cars and could be found in the garage with his head under the hood. He loved loud music and fast cars. He and his brother, Richard, later became known as the “Volkswagen Mechanics”. For years to come, Lanny loved motorcycles, fast cars, loud stereos and tinkering around his shop.

Lanny met his first love, Pamela Jo, in 1974. Instantly, he became a father to her three growing boys and they later welcomed a daughter in 1975. The family could be found living their lives outside and adventuring around southern Idaho in a dune buggy or the Jeep. He had a gift for building the best and loudest stereo systems. During this time in his life, he was known as Mr. Stereo. Family and friends gathered each year for good food and rocking music as Lanny stood up front, lighting the fuses and creating a legacy that he would be passing on to his children and grandchildren.

Lanny worked at Amalgamated Sugar in Paul, Idaho, from 1974 until retiring in 2016. Lanny gained lifelong friends over the years. He worked in the boiler house and took his job seriously.

After losing his wife, Lanny and Linda Hull were reintroduced when they saw each other at Grace Church after meeting many years ago. They found friendship and love and were married March 2, 2024. The two of them loved to travel and recently took a trip through Wyoming and South Dakota, visiting Mount Rushmore and Sturgis. They brought joy to each other over the past two years and did everything together.

Lanny was preceded in death by his parents, James and Virginia Denton; siblings, Richard Denton and Virginia “Ginny” McCombs; his wife, Pamela Denton; son, Mark Douglas Denton; grandson, Jesse James Denton; brothers-in-law, Jeff and Kelly Wadsworth; and sister-in-law, Vicki Brashear. He is survived by his wife, Linda; sons, Gene (LaDonna) Cope, and Daniel Denton; daughter, Angela (Michael) Oliver; stepson, Nick (Kjersti) Waldemar; grandchildren, Christa Cope, Daniel Denton, Raymond (Niki) Cope, Mark Denton, Riley (Paty) Oliver, and Damon Oliver; great-grandchildren, Lexzi Cope, McKenna Gudenau, Lucas Xander, Killian and Liam Cope, Penelope and Lucia Oliver, Ames and Ivol Waldemar; sister, Lisa Quackenbush Blacker; sisters-in-law, Robin (Ken) Raabe, Kim Bedke, Amber Rition, Chris (Ernie) White, and Vicky (Ron) Asher; and brother-in-law, Larry McCombs.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m Tuesday, May 13, at Grace Community Church, located at 100 N. Meridian, in Rupert. A luncheon will follow the celebration of life at First Christian Praise Chapel, located at 1110 8th Street in Rupert.

Please bring a story and celebrate with the many people who loved Lanny.

RIP Lanny, Thank you for being a great boss and a great friend. Prayers to your family and loved ones. What a legacy you left for your children and grandchildren.
From Larry Lloyd:
Lanny was one of the most talented people I have had the privilege of knowing. I first got to know him as coworker at Amalgamated Sugar and as a fellow "Jeep fanatic". He not only was very knowledgeable and dedicated to his work at the factory, but was also an encyclopedia about all things "Jeep". Lanny was always willing to share what he knew and help me out with my project Jeep. He was a kind and patient man, willing to teach others to improve their skills. I will always remember him with a smile on his face, a twinkle in his eye with a wrench in hand working on a project car. Lanny will sorely be missed.
From Melanie Moats:
I am so very sorry for your loss of Lanny. He was a sweet soul and I'm sure a great dad. Linda, you brought joy to the picture late in life, but those memories and joys will live on in your hearts and many others as well. Lisa and Crista, I may have moved away, but I have not forgotten the sweet friends I left behind. You and your family are in my heart and prayers. May God just wrap his arms around you and comfort you at this time. ~Melanie~
