MALTA – Julene Bunker Cottle Hall, a 90-year-old resident of Malta, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born on August 2, 1934, in Sutherland, Utah, to Zola Woodbury Bunker and Clifton Lamond Bunker, Julene was a cherished daughter, wife, grandmother and great-grandmother. She attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah, where she met and married Albert Jay Cottle, beginning a beautiful partnership that lasted until Jay’s passing in 2020.

Julene had a passion for many things including gardening, where she found joy in nurturing life and creating beauty in her surroundings. She was known for her talent in decorating wedding cakes – a skill that brought joy to many couples on their special day. Julene was an accomplished baker and enjoyed baking for her friends and family. Julene loved flying with Jay to check the cattle on the mountain and eventually obtained her pilot’s license.

A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Julene faithfully served in many capacities throughout her life. She and Jay were able to serve missions together in Nauvoo, Illinois, St. George, Utah, and Palmyra, New York.

They enjoyed many trips together in their later years. Julene was an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers (DUP) where she held numerous leadership positions and was a strong advocate for preserving history and heritage. Julene’s family was her greatest joy, and she was a constant source of love, wisdom, and support to them. She will be remembered for her nurturing spirit, her unwavering faith, and her dedication to those she loved. Julene was a mother figure to many who were not her own.

After Jay’s passing she married Rodney Hall and they enjoyed 18 months together before his passing. She enjoyed being a part of the Hall family and loved them very much.

She is survived by her children, Randy (Alaine) Cottle of Pleasant Grove, Utah, LaNae Glenn of Logan, Utah, and Robert (Sheryl) Cottle of Malta; a brother, Reed (AnnaMae) Bunker of Delta, Utah; a sister, Bonnie Neilson of Provo, Utah; 11 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands, Jay Cottle and Rodney Hall, Julene was preceded in death by her daughter, Laurel (Mark) Phillips of Franklin, Tennessee; brothers, Keith, Don and Boyd Bunker; and a granddaughter, Janica Crawford.

The family extends their gratitude to all those who have shared in their loss and offer heartfelt thanks to those who provided care and support during Julene’s final days. May she rest in peace, reunited with loved ones and embraced by the love she gave all.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 7, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Malta Ward, located at 280 N. First W., in Malta, with Bishop Austin Udy officiating. Burial will follow at Valley Vu Cemetery in Malta.

From Terry Barrett :
Sister Cottle was a great example for the teenagers of the Raft River Valley. Brother Cottle was a great Seminary teacher and helped me in various ways to develop a testimony of the Savior and to understand the gospel principles. I remember both of them loved to have fun also, and hosted a Seminary party at their property. I still remember that party and how fun it was. Condolences to the family and prayers of peace and love!
From Sharon Hutchison:
