Delmer Dorsey

BURLEY – Everett Delmer Dorsey was born on November 6, 1936, to Lincoln Everett Dorsey and Bessie Dorsey in Waverly, Kansas. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on March 3, 2025, at Park View Care and Rehabilitation. Delmer had six siblings: Merlin, Floyd, Coleen (whom all preceded him in death), He is survived by his siblings, Christine (William) Drew of Paul, Delores Meriweather of San Diego, California, and Terry (Connie) Dorsey.

The family moved west across the United States, eventually making Paul, Idaho their home. Delmer was a fun-loving and adventurous child who enjoyed ice skating on the Paul slough, where he and his siblings spent their winter days. At the age of 15, Delmer's strong work ethic earned him a job with the carnival that had come into town, where he was offered a position that he took and ended up working with them for 9 months without telling anyone at home where he was going. Upon returning from this adventure, he joined the Marine Corps, where he was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii. Delmer served as a cook's assistant and later transferred to the crash crew, an experience he fondly remembered.

Delmer married his first wife, Phyllis, in 1956, and together they had three children: Kathy, Theresa, and Jerry. Delmer and Phyllis later divorced. In 1975, Delmer married Carol, the love of his life, and he gained five more children: Sidona, Lorena, Ted, Sandra, and Lynn. In 2004 Carol passed away.

Throughout his career, Delmer worked for several companies, including Simplot as a crew lead, Kennicott Mines in Nevada, and Parsons Construction, where he worked on a rock crusher in Evanston, Wyoming. He later worked for Gordon Paving and later retired from Kloepfer Concrete in 2002.

Delmer enjoyed various outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing, and camping. He loved sharing stories about his adventures, such as the time he accidentally shot the hood of his pickup while shooting at a deer. He often joked that he should have turned the incident into a commercial for Chevy, claiming “they could take a shootin' and keep on scootin’." Delmer continued to hunt and fish throughout his life until his last year.

Delmer absolutely loved and adored all of his grandchildren, finding great joy in being able to support them with their needs.

Delmer was preceded in death by his parents; his two brothers; and two sisters; his loving wife Carol; two sons; and two daughters.

Delmer is survived by one big sister, Christine, one little sister, Delores, and one little brother, Terry; and his daughters, Theresa (Joseph) Moore, Kathy (Robert) Brewton, Sandra Rasmussen, and Lynn (Robert) Braden; seven grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Delmer will be remembered for his infectious smile, his one-of-a-kind laugh, and his always-inappropriate humor.

He will be greatly missed by all and we want to give a special thanks to Park View Rehabilitation for his care.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Mini-Cassia Veterans Group, in care of Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 878, Burley, ID 83318.

A memorial service will be held at 11a.m. Saturday, March 22, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, located at 1350 East 16th Street, in Burley, where military rites will be provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Group.
