PAUL – Alta LaRue Smith Rasmussen, an 81-year-old resident of Paul, passed away Monday, February 17, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family she lived with.
She was born September 25, 1943, in Burley, Idaho, the daughter of Floyd Donald and Vera LaRue Ferrin Smith. She married Lloyd LeRoy “Schooney” Rasmussen on July 8, 1962, and, together, they had two sons, Troy and Todd. They later divorced.
Alta worked at the Wayside Café for many years. She enjoyed camping, fishing and playing darts; however, that which was most important to her was her family.
She is survived by two daughters-in-law, Jodi Marie Rasmussen and Tami Rasmussen; two step-sons, Rodney Rasmussen and Gary Rasmussen; her siblings, Sandy “LeRoy” (Youko) Smith and Mary Ann Johnston; a sister-in-law, Donel Smith; eight grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Alta was preceded in death by her parents; her former husband, Schooney; two sons, Troy “TJ” Rasmussen and Todd Rasmussen; a step-son, Nevada Kim Rasmussen; three brothers, Donald Smith, George Smith and Floyd Smith; and a great-grandson, Stanley Smith.
A memorial graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 7, at Valley Vu Cemetery in Malta, where she and her son, Todd, will be laid to rest. Family and friends may gather at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home at 9:00 a.m. The cortège will leave for the cemetery at 9:15 a.m.
