Service Program

BURLEY – On February 6, 2025, heaven welcomed a new boxing champion, Zachary Mata II, whose heart of gold and unwavering passion for his sport inspired all who knew him. He is now met at the gates of heaven by his great-grandparents, Graciano and Benita Gomez, and his baby cousin, Yarlii Alma Vaca, who await him with open arms and a pair of golden gloves to celebrate his arrival.

Zachary leaves behind a legacy of love and strength, cherished by the love of his life, Jasmine Faith Curiel; and their unborn son, Zachary Roman Mata III. He is deeply missed by his sisters, Ciara Ilene Vaca, Ellie Ilya Mata, and Evelyn Jay Vargas; as well as his brothers, Sean Christopher Mata, Tyrell Mata, and Julion Carter Mata. He cherished his niece, Kamila Ivanna Zagal, who brought joy to his life.

He is survived by his mother, Carolina Vaca; his step-father, Gabriel Vargas Ramos; and his father, Zachary Mata Sr. He is also lovingly remembered by his living grandparents, Cristobal and Alma Vaca; and Carina Ochoa Mata and Ramon Ochoa. On his mother’s side, he is survived by aunts, Jazmin, Christina, and Yolanda; and on his father’s side, by aunt, Bianca and uncles, Tyson and Anthony.

Zachary was a dedicated student pursuing his high school diploma. He loved spending time outdoors, especially fishing with his grandpa and camping with family and friends. His spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of his family and friends, inspiring them to pursue their passions with the same fervor he displayed in the ring. His memory will be cherished, and his legacy will live on through those he loved and who loved him.

A vigil service will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 18, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, located at 1350 East 16th Street in Burley. The recitation of the rosary will begin at 6 p.m.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 19, at St. Therese the Little Flower Catholic Church, with Father Eladio Vieyra as celebrant. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Burley.

Rest in peace, dear Zachary. You will be missed but never forgotten.
