TWIN FALLS - Virginia Lee “Ginny” (Denton) McCombs, a 77-year-old resident of Twin Falls, passed away on February 1, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family, after recently being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Ginny was born on May 6, 1947, in Renton, Washington, to Richard James Denton and Anetta Virginia (Smith) Denton. She lived in Pocatello, Idaho until the age of four, then moved with her family to Anaheim, California where she grew up. Ginny has three siblings: older brother Richard David Denton (deceased), younger brother Lanny Denton, and younger sister Lisa Blacker.

Growing up in Southern California, Ginny watched Disneyland be built and enjoyed time with her friends at school and days at the beach. She sewed her own stylish clothes in high school and would go on to become a wonderfully talented seamstress.

When Ginny was 17, she moved to Heyburn, Idaho, and lived with her uncle and aunt, Desmond and Verla Welch along with their four kids. She attended her senior year of high school at Minico High School in Rupert. She liked to share that she submitted the same homework she’d done in California where she received a “C”, but received an “A” at Minico.

Ginny soon met a cute, blond curly-haired boy named Larry Ralph McCombs whose family owned the local grocery store. Larry left for his church mission to the Hill Cumorah, New York State Mission before they could go on a date. She wrote love letters to him during the two years he was gone, including a “Dear John” - but that obviously didn’t stick. One day, Ginny’s aunt called her at her friend’s house to come home early. She was frustrated but went home anyway. She walked in the front door to discover Larry had completed his mission and was home. She turned around, ran out the front door and around the house to the back door, but Larry caught her - and the rest, as they say, is history.

Larry and Ginny were married for time and all eternity in the Logan Utah Temple on February 2, 1967. They shared the February 2nd date of their anniversary with Ginny’s parents, as well as her aunt and uncle, with whom she lived.

Larry and Ginny resided on the McCombs family farm in Heyburn when they were first married and welcomed their daughter, Andrea Gail. A year and a half later, their oldest son, Larry Clay was born. After a couple of years, the family moved to Elko, Nevada for four years and then back to Burley, Idaho right before their next son, Brant Desmond, was born.

They spent a few years back in Heyburn during the 70s, where Larry and Ginny owned and operated the family grocery store where they met - Mac’s Market. The neighborhood grocery store was a cinderblock building and Ginny painted large, colorful stripes along the side of the store, and around the corner with large arrows pointing to the store’s entrance. This is just one example of her immense creativity.

Mac is short for 'McCombs,' and Larry and Ginny both called each other 'Mac' throughout their marriage.

The family made their way to Paul, Idaho, in the mid-80s. Around that time, their youngest son, Corey James, was born. All four kids were born at the old Magic Valley Regional Medical Center in Twin Falls with the same doctor over a 16-year period, regardless of where the family was residing.

They moved to Rupert, Idaho, where Ginny enjoyed decorating and wallpapering a Victorian-style home, which was listed with the historical society. The family eventually moved to Twin Falls, where they have resided for over 35 years.

Ginny was a talented seamstress and interior designer who could sew anything. In addition to her clothes in high school, she sewed wedding dresses - including her own, clothes for her kids, doll clothes, curtains and drapes, blankets, elaborate Halloween costumes, drill team uniforms, and many other items. She’s done alterations on everything from wedding and bridesmaid dresses to jackets and coats.

One of her specialties was creating long, flowing baby dresses with lots of lace, ruffles, and ribbons for her granddaughters and a few special family friends.

A few years ago, Ginny went back to work sewing professional custom draperies with her dear friend, Susan Schiffler. She enjoyed her work there right up until she became sick in October.

Over the years, Ginny has also shared her tremendous talent with the public, including her shops Grandmother’s Attic in Burley and GinnyAnnee’s in Rupert and Twin Falls. Many people remember her from her time at Cain’s Home Furnishings, which was located in downtown Twin Falls, where she worked in sales, advertising, and furniture buying—including a trip to High Point, North Carolina.

Ginny had many other talents, including quilting, crocheting, knitting, painting, home remodeling, and interior design. Her homes were always beautifully decorated, and she had a sharp eye for detail. Her custom interior designs were clever and always ahead of the latest trends. She also kept her yards immaculate, spending countless hours tending to them. She hosted many events and weddings in her backyard. Her former home on Candleridge Drive in Twin Falls was once featured in the Parade of Homes. Decorating for Christmas was a huge event, with every room in the house reflecting her special touches and attention to detail.

She loved helping her kids paint and decorate their homes, and she was often called to her mother’s home to “come hang a picture.” Ginny freely shared her talents and ideas with those around her and they were always thrilled with her recommendations and ingenuity. She wished she had pursued her dream of becoming an architect, but it wasn’t a vocation commonly sought by women at the time.

In addition to her many creative projects, Ginny and Larry owned and operated Magic Valley Express - a moving and delivery company established in 1996 and based in Twin Falls. Their mom-and-pop company grew to be very successful, with business throughout the western United States and beyond. Their two youngest sons have carried on the moving business tradition with their own companies, and all four of their kids have inherited their parents’ entrepreneurial spirit, each running their own business.

The McCombs family often went camping and enjoyed family vacations to Disneyland where many of their fondest memories were made. Other trip highlights include Ginny and Larry traveling to Hawaii and taking a Caribbean cruise. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their kids and grandkids at Disneyland in 2017.

Ginny had nicknames for all of her kids, and cherished her time with each of them.

Ginny and her ‘favorite daughter’, ‘Andee,’ could often be found ‘shopping ’til they dropped.’ Some of their favorite trips included Napa Valley, California; Victoria, BC, Canada; and the tulip fields in Western Washington.

Ginny enjoyed planning parties including all of the food, decorations, and little details. During his 40th birthday party, ‘Clayzie Baby’ was finally ungrounded and received an official framed certificate to prove it.

Ginny loved having one-on-one time with her middle son, ‘Butch’, when he was a kid, encouraging him to open up and talk to her about life and things that were going on with him.

Ginny took several road trips with her youngest son, ‘Bubba’, including a memorable trip to California with a family friend, Barb Smith. While eating at Coco’s, Ginny was laughing and joking like a carefree kid. He had never seen her laugh so much or be so funny.

Ginny enjoyed spending time with her grandkids at family gatherings, attending sporting activities, musical theater performances, and many other memorable experiences. They could often be found doing crafts, sewing, and other creative projects. She always made their Christmases magical and gave them the perfect birthday gifts.

Ginny was a strong and courageous soul. She beat stage 4 breast cancer 30 years ago. Her youngest was nine years old at the time, and she was determined to finish raising him while spending more time with her husband and other children. After two near-death experiences during treatment, she would go on to accomplish all of this and more, including seeing all of her children happily married and witnessing the births of eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren—the youngest being just two weeks old at the time of her passing.

Ginny was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many Stake and Ward callings, with her favorite being Young Women President. She continued to keep in contact with her ‘girls’ whom she loved dearly.

Ginny is survived by her husband of 58 years, Larry, of Twin Falls; her daughter, Andrea Andrus (Kevin), of Boise, her three sons, Clay McCombs (Jennifer) of Twin Falls, Brant McCombs (Amy) of Twin Falls, and Corey McCombs (Jesseca) of Meridian. Eight grandchildren: Cody McCombs, Jessica Fife (Jason), Jordan Ward (Cayleb), Kennedy McCombs, Rowan Andrus, Dallas McCombs, Bennett McCombs, and Desmond McCombs. Six great-grandchildren: Rilynn McCombs, Kinley McCombs, Luke Ward, Kollyns Ward, Crew Ward, and Jettson Fife. Her brother, Lanny Denton (Linda) of Burley, and sister, Lisa Blacker of Rupert. Brother-in-law Fred McCombs (Jeanette) of Burley, sister-in-law Maxine McCombs of Star, and sister-in-law Kellie Rekow (Mark) of Emmett.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Richard David Denton, sister-in-law Patricia O’Connell Denton, sister-in-law Pamela Denton; her in-laws Ralph and Velora McCombs, brother-in-law Michael McCombs, sister-in-law Sharon Quast and her husband Harold Quast, a niece and two nephews.

She also cherished her angel-baby grandchildren, who were always in her heart and were met with open arms on the other side.

The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to her nurse, Denise, and all of the wonderful staff at Hospice Visions for their loving care, as well as to the many people who visited, called, sent cards and flowers, and brought in meals.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 11 a.m. MST at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 1134 North College Road West in Twin Falls, Idaho. Family and friends will be received from 10 until 10:45 a.m. the day of the funeral, and from 5 until 7 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025, at the church.
