RUPERT – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Colleen Augusta Duncan (Wright), who left us peacefully on Sunday, October 27, 2024, surrounded by many of her beloved family members. Born on February 13, 1934, in Twin Falls, Idaho, she grew up in Eden on the family farm, where she learned the value of hard work, community, and strength. She attended Idaho State University before graduating from Woodbury University, which led to her career as a talented and dedicated seamstress.
In 1957, she met the love of her life, Robert Duncan, when he pulled up behind her in Arizona after seeing her “Idaho” license plate and asking if she had any potatoes. They were married on July 20, 1957. Together they lived a beautiful life and were blessed with five children; Robert, Richard, Sara (Kathy), Lucy, and Roberta.
Colleen taught herself how to sew at a young age and made her wardrobe from thereon out. Her hands crafted beautiful pieces for others until the age of 89, a testament to her passion and skill. For many years, she loved to garden and bake, filling her home with fresh fruits and vegetables and the scent of fresh-baked goods. Even as she aged, her joy in creating for others never wavered. After beating cancer in her late 70s, she continued to live life with determination and compassion, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Family and friends were the center of her world. She leaves a legacy of love and kindness that extends far beyond her own family. Known for her warm presence, she welcomed all with open arms, making everyone feel special and loved. Her grandchildren were especially dear to her and she played a vital role in their lives, leaving them with cherished memories of time spent together.
Her love for life and community was evident in her favorite pastimes. She was a regular at coffee gatherings, an enthusiastic pinochle player, a member of the VFW (Robert served in the Korean War), and a dedicated member of the organization TOPS, where she proudly held a high-ranking KOPS position for several years.
Colleen follows her beloved husband, Robert Duncan; her parents, Earl Wright and Lucy Wright (McNee); and two brothers, Earl (Buzz) Wright and Eden (Sonny) Wright in eternal peace. She is survived by her sister, Arleen Woodbridge of Rupert; five children, Robert Duncan, Richard Duncan, Sara (Kathy) Schneider, Lucy (Donald) Burge, and Roberta (Silas) Smith; nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter; nieces, nephews and many others whom she loved as her own. Her spirit will be deeply missed but forever celebrated by those blessed to know her.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 7, at Grace Church, located at 100 N. Meridian Road, in Rupert, with Pastor Travis Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Magic Valley Memorial Veterans Cemetery (Rock Creek Cemetery) in Hansen.
Family and friends will be received from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 6, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th Street, in Burley, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
