BURLEY – Kathleen Ann Rios, a 70-year-old resident of Burley, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at her home.
She was born on April 3, 1954, at Cottage Hospital in Burley, Idaho, as the fourth child of Carl Frank and Clara Marie (McKean) Hinz. Kathleen graduated from Burley High School in 1972.
Kathleen had many job opportunities, including positions at The Flower Pot for Bill McGill, the Burley Detective Division with Pete Rodriguez, Southern Idaho Realty, King’s Department Store, Cassia Memorial Hospital, and Cassia Insurance for Jack Snow.
She was married and divorced but was blessed along the way with three sons.
In July 1992, she married her favorite human, Jose J. Rios, in the mountains, surrounded by family members who attended and camped out.
Kathleen attended some college at CSI in her 30s and later established her own wood business, Katz’s Kreations.
She is survived by her husband, Jose; two sons, Travis and Nicholas; her sister, Patty; brother-in-law Roger Price; sister-in-law Linda Hinz; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Clara; her brothers, Jim and Bill; and a baby son, Kirk.
Kathleen cherished her special friendships with both the Hinz and McKean families, especially with Jean Noble and Valerie Allen. She fondly remembered family trips to Alturus Lake, where highlights included picnics, swimming, camping, and water fights on a special beach.
Throughout the years, Kathleen enjoyed the companionship of many dogs and cats. Although she had no grandchildren, her wonderful granddogs and her passion for rescuing animals brought her great joy.
Special friends included the Domino Girls, the Three Musketeers, Elise Cohen, Chris Draper, Sue Carroll, Jane Brown, Jayne Runyon, and Laura Willis, her Presbyterian Church family, Linda Hollinger, McKenzie Maughan, Julie Woodford, Carolynn Nelson, Sheila Peterson, and the women of the October Quilt Retreat.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 26, at First Presbyterian Church, located at 2100 Burton Avenue, in Burley, where family and friends will be received from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Officiating will be the Rev. John Ziulkowski. Burial will follow at Gem Memorial Gardens in Burley.
