Jul. 22, 1961 - Sep. 7, 2024
RUPERT – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Andy J Watkins on September 7, 2024, at the age of 63. Born on July 22, 1961, to Bob and Linda Anderson, Andy faced early loss when his father, Bob, passed away unexpectedly. In 1966, his mother, Linda, met and married James Watkins, who lovingly adopted Andy and his younger brother, Mike, and raised them as his own, and a little over a year later, his little sister, Tammy, was born. In 1968, the family moved from Colorado to California, where James pursued a career in law enforcement.
Andy attended school in California until his sophomore year, when the family relocated to Twin Falls, Idaho. After receiving his GED, Andy joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 19 and proudly served his country for four years.
In 1988, Andy married Carmen, though they divorced a year later. He later met April and became a loving stepfather to Kodi Steele and father to Kasey J. Watkins, born in November 1997. Andy adored his boys and was deeply connected to them, even after April and the boys moved to Arizona following their separation in 2004. In 2005, Andy proudly became a grandfather to Jimmy.
Andy never lost his passion for golf, football, or baseball, especially his beloved LA Rams. He also loved to play Fortnite with his great-nephew, Walker. His life was filled with love for his family, friends, and his favorite pastimes. He leaves a legacy of warmth, resilience, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
After living in Jerome, Idaho, Andy fell seriously ill in 2022, and spent several months in the hospital. He moved to Rupert to live with his parents while recovering. Despite his health struggles, Andy made incredible strides, and this summer, he was able to return to one of his greatest passions—golf—playing three times before his passing.
Andy treasured the time he spent with his nieces and nephews, growing especially close to Heidi and Walker Maier. He spent his final day watching them joyfully play on the trampoline from his front porch.
He is survived by his parents, James and Linda Watkins; his sister, Tammy Richardson; his two sons, Kodi (Jessica) Steele and Kasey J. Watkins; his nephew, Michael (Emily) Richardson and children; niece, Krysta (Riggin) Maier and children; nephew, C.J. (Eddy Alvarez) Richardson; and his beloved fur baby, Mulligan. Andy was preceded in death by his father, Bob Anderson; his brother, Michael Watkins; and his grandparents, Carl and Wanda Engelbrecht, Paul and Elma Watkins, and Frances Anderson.
A private memorial service will be held for the family at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to his sister, Tammy Richardson, to help with funeral costs.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home of Burley.
