BURLEY – Simona Lumbreras Guerrero (Ureña), 94 years old, a long-time resident of Burley, Idaho, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Evergreen Health Hospice Care in Seattle, Washington.

Simona was born January 10, 1930, in San Jose de las Flores, Municipio de Dr. Arroyo, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, the daughter of Bardomiano Lumbreras and Maria Cruz Guerrero. She was number five of 19 children. She received and completed her education in Dr. Arroyo, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. She married Jesus Ureña Gomez on May 16, 1954, in La Ureña, Municipio de Zacoalco de Torres, Jalisco, Mexico.

After moving to Burley in 1963, Simona worked for JR Simplot Company and retired after 30 years of service.

Simona was an active member of St. Therese the Little Flower Catholic Church in Burley. She was a woman of strong faith that was reflected in her everyday life, always graceful. She volunteered with the Guadalupanas and did not pass up an opportunity to be of assistance to those in need. She often told the story of how she convinced her parents to allow her to go to school to learn how to make desserts. Baking and cooking were her love language, a love she passed on to her children. She always had at least two homemade desserts ready for her many visitors.

Aside from baking and cooking, she enjoyed crafts, including sewing, crocheting, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Her legacy is her graceful, kind, thoughtfulness and wisdom. Her character shone through despite Alzheimer's. She was considerate and thoughtful to her last day, always concerned about others. She was full of love, wit and patience.

She was a caring wife, a wise mother, and an esteemed grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

Simona is survived by her husband, Jesus Ureña Gomez; children, Alfredo Ureña (Salem), Virgilio Ureña (Portland), Jesus (Elissa) Ureña (Salt Lake City), Ruben (Leah) Ureña (Meridian) and Norma Linda Ureña (Seattle); 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Claudia Lumbreras Guerrero, Carmen Salinas, Bardomiano Lumbreras, Graciela Garcia, Belisario Lumbreras, Estela Rodriguez, Aaron Lumbreras, Maria Landeros, Francisco Lumbreras, and Rosa Maria Lumbreras.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter; her parents; and siblings, Hilario, Placida, and Irene Lumbreras and Paula Gomez.

A vigil service will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday, September 16, at St. Therese the Little Flower Catholic Church, located at 1601 Oakley Avenue, in Burley. The recitation of the rosary will begin at 6 p.m.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 17, at St. Therese the Little Flower Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Eladio Vieyra as celebrant. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, 1645 E. 16th Street, in Burley.
