BURLEY – Calleen Rae Ramsey Nelson, a 74-year-old Burley resident, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 25, 2024, surrounded by family.

She was born December 10, 1949, in Burley, the second of four children born to Calvin Levon and LaRae Andersen Merrill. Calleen attended Burley schools, including Burley High School where she was a member of the Stepperette drill team until she graduated in 1968.

Calleen married her high school sweetheart, Robert (Bob) Lee Ramsey, on October 4, 1968, and later solemnized their marriage in the Salt Lake Temple. Calleen and Bob enjoyed 28 years living and raising their seven children together until his passing in 1996. She was blessed to marry again in 1999 to Keith Wayne Nelson, a loving and supportive husband, whom she spent 19 happy years with until his passing in 2018.

Calleen was an excellent mother and dedicated herself to the care of her family. She provided for her family with her work at Yakima Meadows, Cassia County School District and as a financial clerk at the then newly-opened Burley Walmart where she worked until her retirement.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in several church callings including in Primary presidencies and Relief Society presidencies. She volunteered with Relay for Life and found joy in sewing and gardening.

Calleen attended as many of her grandchildren’s activities as she could, always with a candy bag in her purse. This earned her the endearing nickname “Candy Gram” by her grandchildren. She was their biggest cheerleader.

She is survived by her children, Rob (Niki) Ramsey, Jennifer Zahler, Matt (Kara) Ramsey, Tyler (Katie) Ramsey, Kyle Ramsey, Nick (Katie) Ramsey and Allison Ramsey; stepdaughter, Monica (Paul) MacArthur; 28 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, DeeAnn Holden and Kaye (Steve) Moore; and one brother, Duane (Sally) Merrill. She was preceded in death by spouses, Bob Ramsey and Keith Nelson; her parents, Calvin and LaRae Merrill; stepson, Rick Nelson; and grandson, Braxton Ramsey.

The family would like to thank all medical professionals for the care that was provided to Calleen throughout her health challenges.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 6, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Springdale 2nd Ward, located at 519 E. 200 S., of Burley. The interment will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, September 5, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, located at 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Friday, prior to the service at the church.
