BURLEY – Carol Crandall Beck, an 84-year-old resident of the Springdale District in Burley, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born January 17, 1940, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Alice Pearl Godfrey and Harvey Leslie Crandall Jr., joining two older brothers. Carole later gained three younger brothers and a sister she adored. She attended schools in Idaho Falls where she was a good student and was very involved in music. She learned to play the piano and organ as a young girl and developed her talent to the extent that she was chosen as Young Musician of Idaho. Carole soon taught several piano students, as well, and later continued her education at the College of Idaho and Brigham Young University.

Carole married Vernon Blair Beck in the Idaho Falls Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on June 20, 1963, and the next several years were spent living in California, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Colorado, and Oklahoma, as Vern completed his schooling and training. She was a welcome addition to any community with her pleasant personality, musical talents, and gifts for teaching and interacting with the young children.

Carole and Vern moved home to Idaho Falls in 1970, just after the birth of their first son, who was welcomed by his three sisters. Three more daughters and another son were born to their family in Idaho Falls. Carole’s children remember the many hours she spent reading to them and appreciate the training she gave them with “job charts,” piano lessons, and regular family home evenings and family scripture study.

She loved to plant flowers and beautify her yard wherever she lived. She also enjoyed growing fruit trees and vegetable gardens; so shelling large quantities of peas and freezing corn are fond memories for her children, as well.

Carole was much in demand as an accompanist and soloist and always shared her musical talents freely and graciously. She enjoyed reading, but she needed her personal copy of books she read because she loved to underline, check mark, and note definitions of words on nearly every page. She was a devoted student of the scriptures and had an amazing knowledge of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Her life was a reflection of her wisdom and testimony. She always served faithfully in her callings and gave generously to her family and others. Carole was the ward organist in the Springdale 1st Ward until her 84th birthday and played with precision and beauty.

She and Vern moved to Springdale in 1999 and loved the people and the beauties of the area. She will be much missed by her family, whom she loved and served for so many years.

Carole is survived by her children, Nan (Jared) Johnson and Kali (Jeff) Baldwin all of Burley, Julie (Dave) Gibson of Farmington, Utah, Lyle (Eileen) Beck of Poulsbo, Washington, Cari (Tony) Orme of Duvall, Washington, Hugh (Tammy) Beck of Littleton, Colorado, Laurel (John) Osmond of Star, Idaho, and Carole Jean (Jon) Lomax of Clinton, Utah; 32 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Harvey (Kay) Crandall, Calvin (Cathy) Crandall, Lyle (Linda) Crandall, Jay (Glenda) Crandall, and LaRae (Frank) Corey; a sister-in-law, Claudia Crandall; and many other loving family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Jim Crandall; and her sisters-in-law, Jerrie and Phyllis.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Springdale 1st Ward, located at 519 E. 200 S., of Burley, with Bishop Troy Anderson officiating. The family will greet friends from 10 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Burley.

A live webcast of the Funeral Service will be available and maintained at the following link: https://youtu.be/uHwy-UBB6rY.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home of Burley.
