BURLEY – Melvin Ira Pedersen, 61, of Burley, passed away surrounded by family, Thursday, March 28, after being diagnosed with several health issues.

Melvin was born May 7, 1962, in Rupert, Idaho, the son of Paul and Venice Pedersen. He married Karen Ellis in Paul, Idaho. Together they had three children, Bradley, Mary, and James. They later divorced. Melvin then married Shelley Tilley on December 16, 1989, in Burley, Idaho. They were later sealed in the Logan Utah Temple on December 16, 1994. Together they had two daughters, Elizabeth and Kayla.

Melvin grew up in Paul, Idaho, where he learned to work on cars with his brothers and dad. He had a love for old cars and enjoyed going to Las Vegas to the SEMA show every year, looking and taking pictures of all the cars and sharing them with friends and family.

He followed in his dad's footsteps and became a truck driver. He worked for many local companies, Bean Transport, Ag Express, Tran Systems, DOT Foods, Casey Martinez and eventually Arlo G. Lott Trucking. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His favorite calling was working in the Scouting program. He had also earned his Wood Badge Beads.

He is survived by his wife, Shelley; his children, Brad Pedersen of Rigby, Mary (Trenton) Okelberry of Burley, Jimmy (Emma) Pedersen of Rupert, and Kayla Pedersen of Burley; his four grandchildren, Emily, Donaven, Bonnie and Alexis; his siblings, Pauline Mendenhall of Logan, Utah, Dan (Delores) Pedersen of American Fork, Utah, and Jeff (Coni) Pedersen of Burley. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Elizabeth; and his brother “Junky” Jim.

A service of remembrance will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Star 2nd Ward, located at 100 S. 200 W., of Burley, where family and friends will be received from noon until 12:45 p.m. Burial will follow at Paul Cemetery.
