Shirley graduated from Burley High School. She worked at Van Engelen’s Department Store during World War II and sold tickets at the Burley Theatre where she met her future husband, Irvin George Harris. From Tammy Thornburg Camalick:
My condolences to your family. Shirley was a lifelong friend of my mom's (Irene Thornburg) and I have fond memories of all the "bridge club ladies" coming to our house. She always had a twinkle in her eye and a warm smile.
