REXBURG – Alan Lloyd Cardon, 76, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 30, 2022, at his home in Rexburg, Idaho, surrounded by family, after a lengthy illness.

He was born August 11, 1945, in Winslow, Arizona, to Lloyd Woodruff and Mayola Shumway Cardon. Alan graduated from Winslow High School in 1964. As a student, he served as Vice-President of the Honor Society; Senior Class President; President of Thespians and Key Club and was selected to attend Boys State. After high school he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Northern California.

Following his mission, Alan attended NAU and received a degree in psychology. He then completed the requirement for his teaching certificate at ASU. He taught 6th grade in Window Rock for one year, then moved to Winslow where he taught sixth grade for ten years. He was principal of Winslow Junior High for seven years. After that, Alan was principal of Bonnie Brennan elementary school for eight years. Upon retiring from the Winslow School District, he moved to Burley, Idaho. Alan was a principal of Big Valley Elementary School in Rupert, Idaho, for eight years. Alan and Patty moved to Rexburg in 2014.

He was an active and devoted member of his church all of his life, serving in many positions of leadership, including bishop and stake president. Alan was a true disciple of Jesus Christ.

Alan married Patty Patton on June 14, 1969, in the Mesa Arizona Temple. They were married for more than 52 years. They welcomed six children into their family, Nancy Bratt (Richie) of Gilbert, Arizona, Nathan Cardon (Pamela) of Egin, Idaho, Natalie Jones (Ryan) of Rexburg, Idaho, Brian Cardon, Matthew Cardon of Bradenton, Florida, and Charlie Cardon (Kathryn) of Rigby, Idaho.

He is survived by his wife Patty and five of their six children; his sister, Carol; brother, Donald; and nine grandchildren, Ryan, Courtney, Kyle, Lydia, Curtis, McKay, Zack, Kelley, and CJ. He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Brian.

The funeral will be held at noon Friday, February 4, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Rexburg East Stake Center, located at 387 South 4th East, in Rexburg, with Bishop Kent Bessey officiating. Burial will follow at Sugar-Salem-Moody Cemetery in Sugar City.

Family and friends will be received from 11 until 11:45 a.m. prior to the service.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home of Burley.
