Date of Service: Apr. 2, 2021

RUPERT – Colton Alan Dwight, 23, of Rupert, passed away Friday, March 26, 2021, in Albion, Idaho.

Colton was born in Burley, Idaho, on March 26, 1998, to Clyde Dwight Jr. and Shawna McCaffrey. He attended St. Nicholas Catholic School and Minidoka County schools. He was currently enrolled at College of Southern Idaho pursuing a degree in outdoor recreation management while concurrently being employed at Newcold in Burley.

Colton participated in many sports growing up. He especially enjoyed wrestling, football, and hockey. Colton had an intense love for adventure, the outdoors, and kayaking. Colton led a nomadic lifestyle; he called Seattle and Denver home before returning to Rupert in 2018. Colton’s favorite adventure was his months’-long Eurorail/backpacking trip across Europe. He said his favorite place to visit was Scotland.

Colton had a big heart. He was a friend to everyone and a stranger to none. He was looking forward to becoming a father in June to his baby girl with Kasey Reynolds.

Colton lost his battle with opioid addiction in the early morning of his 23rd birthday. He is survived by his parents, Clyde Dwight Jr. and Shawna (John) McCaffrey; brothers, John, and Kendall Dwight, and Keelan (Lanie), Kevin, and Finn McCaffrey; grandparents, Anitta (Jim) Tallon, Wayne and Trudy Young, and Ann Cueva.

He was preceded in death by his uncle, David Dwight; his grandfathers, Clyde Dwight Sr., and Ken Huizinga; and his beloved cat, Russell.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made in Colton’s name to Simply Hope Family Outreach at D.L. Evans Bank in honor of Colton Dwight.

Simply Hope Family Outreach is a volunteer organization whose goal is to help area families find support when dealing with addictions and other serious family issues.

The family will honor Colton’s life with a memorial service at 11 a.m. Friday, April 2, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley.

From Marcus Schorzman:
Colton, you were always a big personality. A big laugh, and a big smile that filled a room. I remember, when were were about 13 and had an air-soft war, after it all died down and there were middle-schoolers sleeping all over my living room. The most prominent memory is you, bringing blankets to all of the sleeping kids, who didn’t have one, and then bringing bath towels when you ran out of blankets. A big heart, a big smile, and a laugh that filled the volume of the space it was in.
