BURLEY – Walter Daniel “Danny” Asson, 73, of Burley, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2016.
Danny was born Nov. 5, 1942, in Rupert, Idaho, to Catholic parents, Walter and Rena Dallolio Asson, who were first generation Italian-Americans. He attended schools in Rupert and graduated from Minico High School, the class of 1961. On June 29, 1963, Danny married his lifelong sweetheart, DeAnna Mae Rausch, in Rupert, and together, they raised three children.
Danny spent his early career working alongside his father, Walt, and brother, Gary in the automobile dealership industry from 1958 thru 1995. Under their father’s tutoring, Danny and Gary operated Quality Cars, then, on March 16, 1966, Danny and Gary opened for business Bonanza Motors, a long-standing, iconic automobile dealership in Burley. During this period of his life he worked with many people in the community, helping them fulfil their automobile needs.
Danny was also involved in the community’s youth sports programs as a coach for little-league baseball, basketball and football teams. He enjoyed golfing and working in the yard. He also had a love for animals, and many small critters benefitted from his nurturing care.
He is survived by his wife, DeAnna; his three children, Wendy (Shawn) Humbach of Twin Falls, Anthony Asson of Burley and Nancy Asson of Twin Falls; five grandchildren, Kamie (Jesse) Ivie of Caldwell, Skylar (Sara) Stark of Caddo, Tex, Shandy (Josh) Gibbs of Twin Falls, Taylor Stark of Twin Falls and Jeremy Stark of Caddo, Tex.; four great-grandchildren (with another on the way), Paydon Stark, Traeger Stark, Daxton Ivie and Brynlee Ivie; and brother, Gary (Joan) Asson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thurs., March 17, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, with Jeff Rasmussen officiating. Following the funeral, a wake for friends and family to attend will be held at 1 p.m. at the Rupert Elks Lodge, 85 S. 200 W., in Rupert.
