Edwin J Wight

Jun. 26, 1953 - Sep. 7, 2026

Edwin J Wight BURLEY – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edwin J Wight, a loving father, brother, and friend, on September 7, 2026, at the age of 73.

Edwin “Ed” was born on June 26, 1953, to Ella Rae and Ellery Wight, in Murray, Utah. His family relocated to Rupert where he spent a majority of his childhood and then his adult years between both Burley and Rupert for work, family, and tending to his family’s farm.

His younger years were fondly spent participating in sports. Sports were Ed’s life. He wrestled and played football even when an unfortunate accident permanently injured his arm. He taped it up and continued to play anyway for the love of the sport. He was awarded the “Roscoe Uscola Most Inspirational Football Player of the Year” for acknowledgment of his grit and tenacity– traits that he carried into his adulthood. He then went on to attend both Rick’s College and Boise State where he continued to play intramural sports and even learned how to fence. He continued to be a “first pick” even as he aged and participated in Sunday league football.

Ed was a strong individual, both mentally and physically. He was known to put his siblings or children on his shoulders and playfully carry them well past their smaller childhood years. He had a love for the outdoors which included camping, visiting hot springs, and hiking. He would never shy away from the more aggressive or least traveled path and encouraged his loved ones to come along for the adventure. He was always the one to bring something to share whether it was food, advice, or a story during times of joy or crisis. When it came to work on his family’s farm he was always there to help, teach, and his work ethic was truly unparalleled.

Ed was a dedicated man. He worked at Ore-Ida which later transitioned to McCain Foods, where he retired after 50 years of hard work and dedication in the food processing industry. Throughout that time he was praised for his dependability and professional commitment.

Edwin is survived by his children, Myra Wight, Ellen Wight (Justin), Tamara Wight, Zuleiki Kangas (Tyler) and their mother Emma; his siblings, Rae Lou Young (David), Jay Wight (Marita), Kim Wight (Melanie); his grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; father and mother, Ellery and Ella Rae Wight; his sister, Karla Wight Gilbert; and his son, Eldon J Wight.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to family, friends, and the community for compassion and support during their loss. A small private gathering will be held at a future date with family and loved ones for a celebration of life.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home of Burley.
