Date of Service: Oct. 10, 2025
BURLEY – Marlene B. Yost, an 87-year-old resident of Burley, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2025, at Highland Estates Assisted Living in Burley.
She was born March 31, 1938, in Murray, Utah. Born to parents William Charles and Laverle Hartle Beckstead. She was an adopted, only child raised in a little house on State Street. Marlene loved school and she graduated from Murray High School in May 1956.
On May 31, 1956, she married Delano Yost in the Salt Lake Temple. She had written to him while he was on a mission to the Central States. A friend of hers helped to start their pen-pal relationship. Delano was drafted into the Army six weeks after their marriage. They were stationed in Baltimore, Maryland for two years. Their son, Boyd, was born there. Marlene and Del loved the friends they made there. They then moved to Burley, Idaho where they resided for the next 57 years. Marlene and Delano went on to have four more children; Colleen, Elton, Alice, and Marla. Marlene was a master bread maker, an excellent seamstress, a wonderful baker, and a fabulous wife and mother.
Marlene did many things to help earn income for the household. She ironed shirts for missionaries for 10 cents each. She tended children. The majority of her employment years were spent in clerical work. She loved working in the office of Culligan Water where she retired at age 69. Perhaps the biggest challenge of her life was becoming a widow at 38 years old.
Marlene was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many capacities, but her favorites were serving in the Relief Society and baking the Sacrament bread.
The family would like to thank the staff of Highland Estates for the loving care they extended to Marlene for eight and a half years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Delano; and one grandson, Garry.
Marlene is survived by her five children, Boyd (Rocky), Colleen (Mike), Elton (Melanie), Alice, and Marla (Rod); 19 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 10, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 515 East 16th Street, in Burley. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Burley.
