BURLEY – Arthur Ray Thornton, age 73, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2025, surrounded by his wife and friends.
Art was born January 27, 1952, in Burley, Idaho, to Ralph Robert and Janece Helen (Klink) Thornton. He attended high school in Burley, graduating in 1970. He then completed one year of college at Idaho State University before joining the United States Army National Guard, where he served for six years.
In 1989, Art became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully for the remainder of his life—including fulfilling a longtime dream of serving a senior mission with his wife at Adam-ondi-Ahman. He had a deep love for the construction industry and carried on his father’s company with honesty and integrity for more than 50 years. His passion for building bridges and lifelong learning was only surpassed by his love for people, his family, and his faith.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Janece; his father-in-law, Darwin Williams; his brother-in-law, Mark Williams; and his brother-in-law, Orlie Runyon.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Michelle; his daughter, Brook (Toby Norskog); his two cherished grandchildren, Ivy and Rhen; and his son, Derrick. He is also survived by his brother, Jim (RaNada); and his sister, Nan.
Art never met a stranger and was known for his unwavering generosity. He loved everyone and could always be found in the service of others and Jesus Christ. He had a unique way of making others feel special and never let a moment pass without showing it. Art worked hard and played hard. From a young age, he had a passion for cars, motorbikes, snowmobiles, and music—a passion that lives on in his grandchildren.
