BURLEY – Jane (Hannah) Keicher, 89, of Burley, Idaho, peacefully passed on Saturday, April 5th, surrounded by her loving family.
Jane was born in Gem, Kansas, to Orlo and Violet Farmer on July 30, 1935. She was the middle child of five children. At that time, she joined her older siblings, Harold and Sally; later, Carol and Shirley joined the family. When she was four years old, they moved to Burley, Idaho. This is where she spent her childhood and graduated from Burley High School in 1953. After high school, she attended Brigham Young University, where she studied office and secretarial careers. She was very proficient in shorthand, to the extent that she left her children and husband chore lists in this style of writing. What is interesting is that we all knew what she meant because she had told us what the list was the night before, but we couldn’t read shorthand. After attending BYU, she returned to Burley, Idaho, where she began her career in the insurance industry as a secretary.
Shortly thereafter, mutual friends set Jane up on a blind date with the future love of her life, Dee Keicher. They dated throughout the summer of 1956, and married on October 27th. Jane and Dee began farming south of Burley, and this became their home. They welcomed their first daughter, Jeri, in 1957; later, they were joined by Jeanne and Kelly. As a family, they enjoyed life on the farm.
Jane began at Burley Jr. High as an attendance secretary shortly before the Junior High burned down. She enjoyed her 26 years of working with students and colleagues. She also enjoyed volunteering at Cassia Regional Medical Center as a Pink Lady.
Mom had a love for bridge, playing in various groups, both as a couple with dad and with a women's bridge group. She enjoyed hosting both and providing the best atmosphere. Mom and Dad also enjoyed traveling, frequently visiting both Cancun and Hawaii.
In her later years, Mom enjoyed all eight of her grandkids and traveled long distances to support their activities, which included high school lacrosse, band, swimming, volleyball, cross-country, basketball, and music. At the college level, lacrosse, basketball, and dance.
Later in life, Mom and Dad sold the farm, retired, and moved to Heyburn. At this time, they welcomed great-grandchildren and two dogs, whom Mom didn’t initially want, but fell in love with. The dogs became great companions.
Jane is survived by her sister, Shirley Bell; her children, Jeri Bosley, Jeanne (Kendall) Jones, and Kelly (Angie) Keicher; her grandchildren, Macquel (Rick) Martin, Logan (Kelsey) Keicher, Mackenzie (Spencer) Bunn, Corbin Keicher, Kassi (Brandon) Brower, Kayla Kerbs, Jack (Tracy) Bosely, and Brett Bosley; as well as 12 great-grandchildren, with one expecting this summer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dee Keicher; father and mother, Orlo Farmer and Violet Barney; stepfather, Earl Barney; brother, Harold Farmer; sisters, Sally Catlett and Carol Hadley.
The family would like to thank all of her caretakers at Pomerelle Place and Rosetta Assisted Living. Also a special thanks to Dr. Nicole Shumway, NP, Shawna McCaffery, and Dr. Margo Saunders for the love and care they gave our mom.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 11, at Pleasant View Cemetery, located at 1645 E. 16th St., in Burley. Family friends will have the opportunity to visit at the cemetery following the service.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home of Burley.
