Dora Hetty Barrie

May 29, 1939 - Oct. 14, 2024

Dora Hetty Barrie RUPERT – Dora Hetty Parmer Barrie, an 85-year-old resident of Rupert, passed away Monday, October 14, 2024, at her home, surrounded by family.

Dora was born May 29, 1939, in Rexburg, Idaho, the daughter of Theodore Apple and Helen Magdalene (Hirschi) Parmer. She was the fifth of 12 children. She lived in Kilgore, Idaho, until the age of five when the family moved to Menan, Idaho, where she grew up and graduated from Rigby High School in 1957.

In 1958, Dora met her one and only love, William L. Barrie. They were married in January of 1959. They spent their days on the farm in Ucon until moving to California in 1963. They spent one year in Texas, prior to moving back to Ucon, in 1968, where they again became engaged in farming. In September of 1978 they moved to Rupert, where they spent the remainder of their days. Her beloved Bill passed away on December 15, 2004.

Dora and Bill loved to dance – and they were very good at it. They enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time with their children and grandchildren.

Dora was a longtime member of Beta Sigma Phi and was the first president of the Rupert Lioness Club. She enjoyed both organizations and she developed lifetime friendships from both groups.

She is survived by her children, Thayne Barrie, Tad (Kema) Barrie, and Robyn Barrie (Michael) Mortola; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Bill, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Wendi; a grandson, Dominic James DeMartino; and several siblings.

Dora requested that no public service be held. A private family service will be held at the Rupert Cemetery where she will be buried next to her husband, Bill. In the springtime the family will hold a celebration of her life.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home of Burley.
