Colleen Reed Kuwana

Jan. 9, 1961 - Jul. 27, 2024

Date of Service: Aug. 1, 2024

Colleen Reed Kuwana DECLO – Colleen Reed Kuwana was born January 9, 1961, in Burley, Idaho, to Rodney and Beth Reed. After a short battle with cancer, she died on July 27, 2024, with her family around her.

Colleen spent her childhood in Albion, Idaho, attending Albion Elementary and Declo High School. She graduated in 1979. Colleen graduated with her bachelor’s degree in 2005. She worked in three different school districts as an interpreter for the deaf. She influenced many students and friends with her skills and fun, sometimes irreverent, personality.

She married Jerry LaMont Kuwana on February 20, 1982. Jerry and Colleen lived in Raft River, Gifford Springs and then settled in Declo. They had three children: Lacey (Kurt) Schwab, Jacob (Daniela) Kuwana, and Lance (Kobe) Kuwana. Colleen’s children were her life, and she was a great mom.

Colleen was delighted to welcome five grandchildren into her life. Piper, Kai, Hazel, and Gideon Schwab, and Nora Kuwana. She dearly loved her grandbabies and was known to them as “Rha Rha”. She got to hold new baby Gideon for the first two weeks after his birth on June 22, which was a great joy to her. Rha Rha will be profoundly missed.

Colleen is leaving behind her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was able to say goodbye to her brothers, Lynn Reed, and Paul (Linda) Reed; sisters, Diane Clawson and Ilene (Tom) Hogan; brothers-in-law, Mas (Kris) Kuwana and Mark (Joni) Kuwana. She was loved by many nieces and nephews and shared a close bond with several of them.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rodney and Beth Reed; and a brother, Scott Reed; brother-in-law, David Clawson; and father-in-law, Mas Kuwana.

Colleen was entertaining, smart and down to earth. There are no words to describe how much we will miss her other than this life has lost a lot of its fun, but heaven will always be laughing.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 1, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, located at 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley. The interment will follow at the Albion Mormon Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received at the funeral home from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Thursday, prior to the funeral.
