Lucy Anne Freestone

Feb. 8, 1943 - May 12, 2024

Date of Service: May 17, 2024

Lucy Anne Freestone MALTA – Lucy Anne Covington Freestone, age 81, passed away peacefully at her home in Malta, Idaho, on Sunday, May 12, 2024, surrounded by her family.

Lucy was born Feb 8, 1943, in Hurricane, Utah, to Justin Max Covington and Lillian (Chamberlain) Covington.

She married Douglas Grant Freestone on Sept 1, 1961, in Vernal, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – St. George Utah Temple on May 29, 1964.

Lucy and Doug started their family in Vernal and lived there for the next seven years on the family ranch. After a series of moves over the next nine years the family finally settled on Arimo Ranch near Arimo, Idaho, in the spring of 1977.

They lived and worked for Arimo Ranch in Marsh Valley for the next 12 years until the ranch acquired additional properties near Malta, Idaho.

Lucy and Doug’s move to Malta in the spring of 1989 was their last major move. Lucy has lived in the Malta area for the past 35 years.

Lucy was very dedicated to her family. She rarely missed a sporting event or other activity involving her children or grandchildren. Without fail she always put the interests and desires of her family ahead of her own.

She was a lifelong member of the church, and was extremely conscientious about her many callings over the years. If something needed doing she would make it happen. She loved the church and was a model member.

She liked cooking (she was a fabulous cook), reading, camping, picnics, her family reunions, and hiking when she was younger. Additionally she enjoyed DUP and the Malta Book Club.

Lucy is survived by her stepmother, Anne Covington, of Draper, Utah; her children Doug Freestone Jr. (Linda) of Park Valley, Utah, and Downey, Idaho, Deena Williams (Layne) of Taylor, Utah, and Wes Freestone of Pocatello, Idaho; three brothers, Max Covington (Mary) of Hurricane, Utah, Ardell Covington (Joanie) of Cedar City, Utah, and Paul Covington (Jo) of Hurricane, Utah; sister, Geneva Bringhurst of Cedar City, Utah; sister in law, Kathy Covington of St. George, Utah; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Doug Freestone Sr.; her parents, Justin Covington and Lillian Covington; her brother, Jeff Covington; and her son, Terry Freestone.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 17, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Malta Ward, located at 280 North 1st West, in Malta, with Bishop Lane Schumann officiating. Burial will follow at the Arimo, Idaho Cemetery later that day.

Family and friends will be received from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service on Friday.
