Date of Service: May 7, 2024

David Kenneth Smith RUPERT – David Kenneth Smith, 48, passed away suddenly on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 9:08 p.m. David was doing one of his favorite activities with friends, riding his side-by-side. They were on their way home from a day of riding when in the dusk their Can-Am struck a cow killing David instantly.

David was born February 27, 1976, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was the second of five children born to Lynn and Debbie Smith. He was raised to work and learned to play hard and enjoy life to its fullest. From a young age, David was good at anything he decided to try. Once mastering a skill, he would move onto a new challenge. Living close to family, David had lots of built-in friends. All the cousins spent hours painting the old chicken coop, climbing around on the old farm equipment, and hunting pigeons in the old cellar.

In High School, David took a job at O’Brady’s Restaurant in Idaho Falls. Working in the family restaurant was something he enjoyed and was soon promoted from dishwasher to cook. Cooking is something David enjoyed and did throughout his life. He would often be found making breakfast for his family, canning his own salsa, and was always in charge making the pies for Thanksgiving.

David attended Blackfoot High School and then moved to Logan, Utah where he spent many years working at Renegade Sports. “Working” at Renegade often required clientele trips on snowmobiles, boats, and ATVs. This allowed him to pursue his love of things that went fast and the outdoors. He always kept a bag packed and ready to go whenever a new jet-ski, boat, snowmobile, etc. needed testing.

David moved to Burley, Idaho in 2001 where he fell in love with the river and boating. Soon after he moved, he met Lindsay Shockey and her two children Teagan and Kaylee. David’s focus on life changed forever and Lindsay became the focal point in his life. David and Lindsay were married on July 15, 2006. Kaylee’s first words after the ceremony was, “Now, you are my dad.” David took his new role as father seriously and made sure the kids went riding on snowmobiles and ATVS, he took them boating, shooting guns and teaching them to enjoy the outdoors. One thing that Teagan and Kaylee never learned was how to enjoy split-pea-soup.

David started working for AG West Distributing as a service rep when he first moved to Burley in 2001. He quickly moved up in the company to become an equipment salesman, a position at which he excelled. The job took him all over Eastern Idaho and Utah, working and serving customers; many who became lifelong friends.

David leaves behind his wife, Lindsay; children, Teagan (Crystal and grandkids Ella and Levi) Lindauer, and Kaylee (Chad and grandkids Khloe and Kinlee) Asher, whom he loved very much. He is survived by his parents, Lynn and Debbie Smith formerly of Blackfoot; his siblings, Stephanie (Vince) DeMar of Phoenix, AZ, Kevin (Juley) Smith of Idaho Falls, Shannon (Adrian) Shaner of Mountain Grove, MO, and Ryan (Janelle) Smith of Phoenix, AZ; as well as many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Pella 1st Ward, located at 152 W. 400 S., of Burley.

Family and friends will be received from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday, May 6, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, at the church, preceding the funeral.
