JACKSON – Winston (Jay) Hutchison, age 70, of Jackson, Idaho, passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 24, 2024.

Jay was born April 28, 1953, in Brigham City, Utah, the second son of Winston J. (Boots) Hutchison and JaNeal Jardine Hutchison.

Jay spent his first few years in Malta, Salt Lake, and Logan, then returning to Idaho and completing elementary, junior high and high school in Burley. He joined the U.S. Army at the age of 18 and served in Germany as a recon soldier for nearly three years. Jay then attended College of Southern Idaho where he studied agriculture and rode bulls with the rodeo team. At one time, Jay ranked among the top ten in the nation as a bull rider. Following college, he earned a realtor license and worked alongside his grandfather, LB Jardine, in the real estate business. Jay then worked as a horse farrier for many years while selling Christmas trees in the colder months. He also cut an sold timber for a time. Jay always had a love of farming and ranching and began to farm fields as he could find them and build a herd of cattle. Jay fulfilled a lifelong goal in 2004, when he purchased a farm and ranch in the Jackson area. He was a man of many trades and enjoyed being self-employed most of his life. Jay worked on the farm until his retirement in 2021.

Jay had a love for horses and enjoyed riding. Some of his favorite adventures were hunting deer and elk on horseback. He enjoyed the many hunting trips with family and friends. He also enjoyed staying connected with the men he served alongside in the Army. He was a part of the 1st Battalion 13th Infantry Recon, and this group of men were like brothers to him. They continued to stay in contact and even held semi-annual reunions for many years. Jay made it a priority to attend every reunion and stay in contact with those men and their families.

Jay’s survivors include his children, Brandy (Fanoalii) Oto of Corinth, Texas, and Sarah (Josh) Wageman of Jackson; four brothers, Jim (Bonnie) Hutchison of Blackfoot, Kevin (Shirley) Hutchison of Declo, Robert (Joyce) Hutchison of Burley, and Kerry (Dora) Hutchison of Paul; and five grandchildren, Kade McReynolds, Isaiah Oto, and Jordis, Alayna, and Ryker Wageman.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice Visions for the excellent care they provided Jay over the last year.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 9, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, located at 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, with Pastor Dusty Adams officiating. Family and friends will be received for visitation from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
