Jul. 22, 1938 - Apr. 19, 2024

Date of Service: May 3, 2024

Jerry R Udy MALTA – Jerry R Udy, our dear father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, returned home to his Heavenly Father and sweetheart on Friday, April 19, 2024, at the age of 85, surrounded by loved ones.

He was born July 22, 1938, in Malta, Idaho, to Rex Udy and Lillie Genevieve Rose Udy. During his childhood years he lived in Elba, Idaho, Malta, Idaho, and Fairbanks, Alaska. He loved his years in Malta and Elba where he learned to work hard and enjoyed playing as well, but most of all he loved the people and the many friendships he made there. He attended Malta Elementary, then attended 3 years of high school in Alaska, and returned to Malta for his senior year where he graduated from Raft River High. Spending some of his formative years in Alaska made it a special place to him for the rest of his life.

Jerry married Delma Rae Wight, the love of his life and his high school sweetheart, on August 4, 1958, in the Salt Lake Temple. They enjoyed 63 wonderful years together until Delma’s passing in 2022. Jerry and Delma grew up in Malta and lived there most of their lives close to family and friends. He worked at Raft River Electric for 35-plus years before retiring. In 2010 they relocated to Meridian, Idaho, and enjoyed the friendships they made there. The last 13 years of his life he fought a courageous fight as he dealt with Parkinson’s Disease.

Jerry and Delma were blessed with four children, Jerry, Wendy, Dan, and Christy. His family meant everything to him. Jerry loved spending time with family and serving others. He worked hard to provide for his family. He also loved hunting, fishing, and sports. One of his favorite things to do was to ride his horse, Nellie. His love for horses lasted his whole life. He spent a lot of time watching and supporting his children and grandchildren in sports and any other events they participated in. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought a lot of joy to his life. They could always bring a smile to his face. He held many positions of service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He said that his testimony grew the most while serving as bishop in Malta. Jerry and Delma served in the Twin Falls and Boise temples, an experience that they both cherished. The last two years Jerry has faithfully attended the Boise Temple, thanks to his friends that took him.

Jerry is survived by two daughters and two sons, Jerry Lynn (Annie) Udy of Katy, Texas, Wendy (Mark) Ingersoll of Meridian, Idaho, Dan (Brenda) Udy of Potlatch, Idaho, and Christy (Wade) Ward of Preston, Idaho; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and his sister, Ranae Oman of Nampa, Idaho.

Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Delma; his parents, Rex and Genevieve; daughter-in-law, Vicki Udy; grandson, Zachary Ingersoll; and brother-in-law, Gus Oman.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 3, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Elba, with Bishop Austin Udy officiating. Burial will follow at Valley Vu Cemetery in Malta.

Family and friends will be received from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, located at 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Friday, preceding the funeral service, at the church.

The family would like to thank Touchmark Assisted Living and all of those there that served and cared for our dad.
