Nancy Kaye Wickel Cranney

Sep. 14, 1948 - Mar. 27, 2024

Date of Service: Apr. 5, 2024

Nancy Kaye Wickel Cranney OAKLEY – Nancy Kaye (Wickel) Cranney passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, in Twin Falls, Idaho, at the age of 75.

Nancy was born September 14, 1948, in Burley, Idaho, to William Arden and Natella Grace Bailey Wickel. Nancy was the oldest of five children and grew up in Elba, Idaho. She was the only girl and having four younger brothers gave her lots of experience in helping at home at a young age. She attended school in Malta.

Nancy married Ron Lee Taylor in December 1965. She and Ron had two children, Arden and Kristen. Nancy later married Willard Duane (Bill) Cranney on July 19, 1973. They blended their families together, each having two children. Bill and Nancy, along with Mark, Toni, Arden and Kristen, lived in Oakley on the family farm. Later with the addition of Todd, the family was complete. Bill and Nancy were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in June of 1988.

Nancy attended cosmetology school in Burley. Although she didn’t work long in this capacity, she always enjoyed helping family and friends with their hair. If there was an elderly lady who needed her hair set, you can bet Nancy was the first to arrive with a comb in hand. She worked with her mom at Ore-Ida when she was younger and later at other businesses in the valley such as King's Department Store and Idaho Bank & Trust (KeyBank of Idaho).

Nancy spent many years volunteering for organizations around the valley. She spent countless hours working with the Pink Ladies through the Cassia Regional Hospital helping both at the hospital and the Festival of Trees every year. She spent many years volunteering in the Soroptimist International Organization, in Burley, where she served in different capacities including president. Nancy loved to serve and help others.

Nancy enjoyed taking her parents on trips whenever they could go. They often traveled to see family, quick trips to Jackpot, Nevada, or going to the National Finals Rodeo. If there was an event for a family member you can bet Grandpa and Grandma Wickel were in the car with Bill and Nancy. She loved her extended family as much as her immediate family and always enjoyed helping them when she could.

Nancy was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served faithfully in many callings in her ward and stake throughout her years, including serving in the Grouse Creek Ward and Twin Falls Temple with Bill.

She is survived by five children, Mark (Jennifer) Cranney of Half Moon Bay, Calif., Toni (Scott) Broadhead of Stansbury Park, Utah, Arden (Heidi) Cranney of Oakley, and Kristen (Winslow) Johnson, and Todd (Carriesa) Cranney both of Eagle; 17 grandchildren, Pace and Trey Cranney, Josh, Rian, Ambra, and Michal Broadhead, Will (Bryn), Tate (Kenzie), Ellee, and MaKaye Cranney, Beck, Isaac, and Max Johnson, Riggs Cranney, and Nixtan, Kealee and Rubey Wayment; three great-grandchildren, Brodi and Lexi Broadhead and Maverik Cranney; brothers, Gene Wickel of Malta, Jim (Barbara) Wickel of Missoula, Mont., Ardel (Judy) Wickel of Burley, and Bill (Jane) Wickel of Connor Creek.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arden and Natella Wickel; husband, Bill; grandchildren, Kody Cranney and Rosey Wayment; and a sister-in-law, Wynell Wickel.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 5, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Oakley Stake Center, located at 355 N. Center, with Bishop Brian A. Lindquist officiating. Burial will follow at Marion Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, April 4, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Friday, at the church, preceding the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed to the missionary fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
