Marian Thompson Snow

Oct. 28, 1929 - Feb. 6, 2024

Date of Service: Feb. 17, 2023

Marian Thompson Snow BURLEY – Lifelong Burley resident, Marian Thompson Snow passed away peacefully while sleeping in her home on Tuesday, February 6, 2024.

Marian was born at home in Burley, Idaho, on October 28, 1929, to Frederick Thomas Frank and LaVonda Fillmore Thompson. She attended grade school at Southwest Elementary School and graduated from Burley High School in 1948.

Marian married Jack Snow on February 2, 1949, in Moscow, Idaho, and they lived there while Jack attended the University of Idaho. After Jack graduated, they moved back to Burley where Jack started his insurance business. Their first child, Susan, was stillborn but in 1952, a daughter, Ann was born and seven years later, a son, John joined the family.

During the summer months the family enjoyed attending insurance conventions together, going to fun places such as Sun Valley, Jackson Hole, and Banff. Jack and Marian enjoyed dancing, playing bridge, bowling, skiing, and golf.

In 1970 Ann married Don Brown who was in the United States Army stationed in Nuremburg, Germany. Jack, Marian, and John flew to Germany to visit Ann and Don. They traveled all around Germany, Austria and Switzerland in a Volkswagen Beetle and had a great time! In 1980 John married Trudi Herzog from Kemmerer, Wyoming.

Now, as empty nesters, Jack and Marian bought a trailer and had fun traveling and playing golf with their friends.

Jack was diagnosed with cancer and passed away on September 9, 1994. Marian had lost her best friend. She took great comfort in living next door to her mother and Jess Parsons, who was a second dad to her.

In the following years Marian enjoyed spending time with her children, 14 grandchildren, and 54 great-grandchildren, vacationing and attending sporting events and family activities. She didn’t go to BYU, but both of her children did and, as a result, she became a big fan of BYU sports and loved to watch the Cougars play.

Marian had a sharp memory, especially for numbers, allowing her to recall everyone’s birthday whenever asked. She loved working in her flower garden and keeping her house spotless. She was very thoughtful and especially good at sending thank you, sympathy, and birthday cards.

Marian was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack; her brother, Fred Thompson; a daughter; and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 17, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Unity 1st Ward, located at 275 S. 250 E., of Burley. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Burley.
