DECLO – Melvin E. Darrington, a 78-year-old resident of Declo, passed away the morning of Friday, Sept. 8, 2023, at his home.

Melvin was born June 24, 1945, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to parents Melvin Boyd and Ora Egbert Darrington. Melvin was a beloved husband, father, teacher, coach, and mentor to many. He was a 1964 graduate of Declo High School, earned an Associates Degree from Ricks College, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Brigham Young University. Melvin met his eternal companion, Sandra while attending Ricks College, and they were married June 12, 1969 in the Idaho Falls Temple. He spent 34 years as a coach and school teacher where he touched many lives for good.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra; his son, (Timothy) Shane; his daughter, Melanie Knowles; and his two sons, Chad and Don. He is also survived by his siblings, Karen, Larry, Karl, Kenneth, Jim, and Max.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Declo Stake Center, located at 213 W. Main St., in Declo, with Bishop Fred Darrington officiating. Burial will follow at Declo Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Friday, preceding the funeral, at the church.
