Rocky Baker Clarence Lanier ‘Rocky’ Baker

HEYBURN – Clarence Lanier “Rocky” Baker, 62, of Heyburn, was a son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and steward of the community; he was our family rock. He died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016, from injuries incurred in a motor vehicle accident.

Rocky was born at the Cottage Hospital in Burley, Idaho, on Oct. 27, 1954, to Patrick Eugene and Nadine Lanier Baker. He has one older brother, Barney Eugene Baker, and one older sister, JoDee Baker (Pola). He married his love, Georgia Schneider, on March 8, 1975, at the Emerson Ward LDS Church, in Paul, Idaho, and changed her name and her life. They built their house in Heyburn, Idaho, and moved into it in 1976, and have been there ever since.

They began growing their family with their firstborn son, Dylan Eugene Baker, in May of 1979, their daughter, Lacy Mae Baker (Salgado), in March of 1981, and their youngest daughter, AriAnn Baker (Hale), in April of 1985. From a previous marriage, he had his oldest son, Patrick Jude Baker, in February of 1974. Out of these children, he had 11 grandchildren, Jayce Elijah Baker, Karmen Amaya Herrera, Parker Eugene Baker, Katie Emily Baker, Milley Lynn Baker, Jenna Deen Hale, Alejandro Kai Salgado, Sophia Vy Baker, Grayson Hunter Baker, Raizlynn Annie Hale and Rocky Emeterio Salgado.

He started his career at the Ore-Ida Processing Plant in 1971, and has been working his way up in the company ever since. He has held many positions in the company and has been in the maintenance department occupying several different roles. His most current position held was the maintenance supervisor of Plant 1. He made many lifelong friends at McCains and, in his opinion, some as close as family. He served on the Heyburn Fire Dept for 20 years, 14 of those years as the assistant fire chief, and 10 years as a fire commissioner. He was also the president of the Heyburn City Council, and was on the Board of Economics and Urban Renewal. He paid close attention to detail; he would make something look good and then want to spend more time trying to perfect it, “a perfectionist to a T.”

Rocky loved the outdoors and anything associated with it; taking pictures, exploring on his 4-wheeler, hunting, and camping - all the while collecting heart-shaped rocks to give his loved ones. He loved to weld and create metal art and spent countless hours in his shop. He loved to garden and took much pride in his garden and home. He will be missed by so many people. He was a man that so many looked up to and could call him their mentor and friend. He was our rock, our mentor, our confidant, our protector, and, so much more than words will ever be able to express.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, C.C. Pop Baker; his grandmother, Martha Josephine Baker; and his father, Patrick Eugene Baker.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec., 16, at the Burley United Methodist Church, 450 E. 27th St., in Burley. Burial will follow at the Riverside Cemetery in Heyburn.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley.
